A clear explanation of the documents you need, why a deposit applies and the circumstances in which deductions may be made
Prepare for your rental with the requirements clearly explained in advance:
Some providers advertise “no deposit”. As explained in our deposit policy, Thailand’s vehicle taxation and insurance arrangements make this extremely difficult when every step is handled in compliance with legal requirements:
This makes luxury cars and supercars in Thailand considerably more expensive than in many other countries
As a vehicle’s value rises, its insurance premiums also increase
Rental vehicles require appropriate commercial-use insurance. This costs significantly more than insurance for personal use.
Without appropriate commercial-use coverage, an insurer may refuse a claim, potentially leaving the renter responsible for 100% of the damage
The deductible is part of the insurance policy’s terms, reflecting the potentially high cost of damage to luxury vehicles
The deposit protects both parties and covers the deductible under the insurance terms
RICHCARS is trusted to work with government organisations, which apply strict credit checks. Customers can be confident that their deposit is held by a financially stable company.
Appropriate commercial-use insurance does not mean “full insurance” with no renter responsibility. Our security deposit is part of a transparent rental process, not an attempt to take advantage of customers.
Every vehicle has commercial-use insurance. Our policy identifies four cases involving costs not covered for the renter that can lead to deposit deductions:
Damage deductions are calculated per damaged area, based on the actual areas affected
Example: if a driver falls asleep and hits the vehicle in front, breaking both headlights, the two headlights count as two damaged areas. The charge is:
Luxury Car: THB 6,000
Supercar: THB 20,000
Insurance does not cover the damage. The renter is responsible for the full amount
The renter pays the actual costs, including draining the tank and repairing the fuel system
The renter is responsible for 100% of the damage; this case is not covered by insurance under the stated policy
If the vehicle is returned without a full tank, the actual cost of the missing fuel will also be deducted from the deposit.
Please note: A reliable company should explain clearly, from the start, when deductions may apply. If a provider avoids this question or cannot answer clearly, consider carefully before renting.
Ask whether the exact vehicle you intend to rent has appropriate commercial-use insurance, and request to see the policy before renting. If a serious accident occurs without suitable coverage, the insurer may refuse the claim. If the rental provider cannot recover the cost through insurance, you need to understand whether they could subsequently seek payment from you.
